Where to Start with AI: Pick a Problem, Not a Tool

Find useful opportunities, assess what each needs and choose one to test.

The useful question isn’t which AI tool to adopt. It’s which part of the business needs to improve, and whether AI is the right way to improve it.

1. Find useful opportunities.

Look at recurring work, delays and decisions. Opportunities usually sit where the same effort is repeated or where work waits on information.

2. Assess what each one needs.

Review the data, the systems, the access involved and the human oversight the work requires. An opportunity that looks simple can depend on information nobody can reach.

3. Choose a first initiative.

Compare the candidates on value, effort, risk and readiness. The best first initiative is rarely the biggest one.

Practical check: Before committing, name the users, the result that matters, the constraints, who owns it and how you will know it worked.

Connect the strategy to the build.

A priority is only useful if it leads somewhere. A clear scope sets out the next step toward a working solution and a way to test its value.

Bring a business priority or a recurring problem, and work through the opportunity and its constraints before choosing a tool.
